We had this done for my son Adam. He got this scratch on his face the day before the school photo. An inch long and bright red. It was very clear on the school photo and he was upset about it. So for $8, we had it removed. Anything wrong with that?

Put it like that I suppose that’s reasonable if everyone agrees, though personally I’d be wary of doing it. There’d be other school photos — to have something “imperfect” is not only an accurate memory of the day, it can spark memories (for better or worse) of the event that caused it.
In fact in Jeremy’s last school photo if I look closely enough I’ll notice he wasn’t in full school uniform, because he was officially away sick that day, and only got into the picture because he came along when I was dropping his brother at school, and the photo was taken about the same time.
