What do Aussies think of NZers?
28 April 2003 by danielbowenI work with a New Zealander who really hates Australia. What are the typical Australian views on New Zealand? - Jessica, UK
The cliche of New Zealanders in Australia is that they all talk funny and because of free migration between the two countries, come over here and take all our jobs. The reality is that a few of them come over and take a few of our jobs. And they talk funny.
I’ve worked with a few Kiwis over the years. As with other nationalities in the workplace, I’ve found there is little tension except when the rugby is on and we remember how New Zealand continually pound Australia into the dirt when we play them. Maybe the Haka really works?
What’s interesting is that someone I know recently spent some time in New Zealand, and said he listened a bit to talkback radio over there. He said they seemed to spend all their time talking about Australia.
Apart from a couple of hours spent in the transit lounge at Auckland airport, I’ve never been to New Zealand. I’d like to go one day. To enjoy the spectacular wilderness, to maybe try and learn to ski, and perhaps even try white water rafting or bungee jumping or one of those other suicidal activities. But mostly so I can listen to the talkback radio for myself.

It is only fair that we Australians accepted about 100,00 imigrants from NZ and we sent over a couple of possums and wallabies as a Trade. Sorting of swapping one feral pest for another.

I have heard that New Zealand is being used as a giant transit lounge for people who cannot get into Australia but into New Zealand then they use the generous free transit agreement to come and live here.. I also hear this is being changed is that true?
