A day in the life
10 February 2003 by danielbowenCan you give me an idea of a day in the life of an Australian? and What are the major foods or native food in Australia? (you can probably explain what exactly vegemite is as well) - Trix, location unknown
The way you ask about the life of an Australian makes it sound like we are some magical, mystical people, living a strange existence in a faraway land. Well depending on where you are, we may be faraway, but - and I hate to break this to you - it’s not that strange and we’re not that mystical. Life in Australia is quite staggeringly similar to life in most other western countries.
Oh, but you want detail. Well, I’m an Australian. And I write an online diary. Okay, so some entries are pretty brief, but some go into excruciating detail. There’s also zillions of other Australians busy writing stuff about their lives.
Foods… well if you want to know about foods peculiar to Australia, there’s an entire foods page at your disposal. And as for Vegemite, it’s just your basic yeast extract, reasonably similar to any other kind of yeast extract you can buy, such as Marmite or Promite. Oh, you can’t buy yeast extract in your local supermarket? Well it’s a black-coloured goo that’s great putting on toast in small quantities. Don’t use it in large quantities or your mouth may explode when you eat it.
